THE FRIGHTENED STAG/MISS BOATING
THE FRIGHTENED STAG
The Frightened Stag comes via some heavy hitters, including Jeff Stolz. The four-piece delighted Lawrencians eager to ease back into the music scene with an early evening set at Cider Gallery for this month’s Final Friday art show (bonus points for featuring artwork by fellow Lawrence folk musician Howard Rains).

This no-nonsense four-piece boasted two organs (squee!), topped with light harmonizing and easy-on-the-ears percussion. Their songs precisely matched the breezy attitudes of most of the laid back attendees (except for the toddlers running off their cookie high and knocking into each other on the grass). Stolz spent much of the pandemic buckled down in his studio and plotting, so we expect more performances from him at both traditional and non-traditional venues in Lawrence in the coming weeks.

ROOTBEER RICHIE & THE REVEILLE / THE WHIFFS
ROOTBEER RICHIE & THE REVEILLE
https://www.rootbeerrichie.com/
Swamp boys gonna do swamp things—even when you take ‘em to a city one thousand miles from home and a mile in the sky. So it goes with Rootbeer Richie and the Reveille, the most soulful rhythm & blue rockers west of the Mississippi. How far west of the Mississippi? As far as you can go without hitting the Rocky Mountains. Denver, Colorado, to be exact. If that seems like a funny birthplace for an eight-piece swamp-pop band soaked to the bone with bayou spirit, well, it’s not.

DAVID MINER
https://www.davidminercountry.com/
Miner's style is a fresh take on an old classic, with a focus on authentic storytelling, reminiscent of the country music troubadours of the past. “Miner displayed remarkable guitar chops in-between singing about dreams of Montana and ghosts by his home in Fort Collins, Colorado” says Brett Garske of “Old Guy at the Show”. Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, David Miner took an early liking to classic country music, and began traveling the western US at age 19, playing in every honky tonk, dive bar, and beer joint he could find, before settling in New Braunfels, TX.
